Analyze service with AI
This feature is currently in beta. AI usage is currently free for beta users, fair use rules apply.

Excel makes it easy to model complex calculations and business logic. But over time, those workbooks can become difficult to maintain, review, and evolve.
Excel Workbook Analyst helps by enabling you to:
Inspect workbook logic and receive clear summaries and explanations of the key components, including VBA
Identify potential risks and problem areas within a workbook
Ask natural-language questions about how a workbook works and receive suggested improvements
Unlike regular AI tools that focus on surface-level formulas or static scans, Workbook Analyst goes deeper by leveraging Coherent’s core technology for understanding Excel logic at scale. The result is a fast, intuitive experience - available directly on Excel files already uploaded to Spark.
Analyze a Spark service workbook
In the Folder Overview, select the "three-dot menu" for the target service.
Choose the Analyze Service with AI option.
Select the version that you would like to analyze.
Accept the terms of the AI usage.
A new window will appear. If you have a pop-up blocker, it may initially be prevented from appearing. Make sure to enable popups from Coherent.
Excel Workbook Analyst features
Excel workbook viewer with different views for representing Excel worksheet:
Default View looks just like Excel.
Analyze Values uses formatting to highlight trends present in large numeric datasets.
Formula Analysis emphasizes cells that contain formulas.
Key Cell Analysis highlights cells that are important to the use of the workbook.
Detailed (slow) and Fast modes of reasoning depending on the depth of analysis required.
Interactive chat window with reasoning trace.
Open multiple sessions and allow interactivity between sessions, e.g. for purpose of comparing workbooks.
Copy chat contents.
Voice input.
How does it work
When you are ready to analyze the file, we take the Excel file and use the same technology behind Coherent Insights to read and extract important data and formulas. This is initially used to display the workbook browser.
As you prompt the analyst, tools built into the application will pull relevant parts of the extracted file representation and send it to the AI provider to process the response.
AI provider
Coherent may leverage different AI providers depending on the type of job or future product enhancements. The AI service provider currently used is OpenAI.
Our OpenAI usage is through the API business terms, where customer prompts and outputs are not used to train OpenAI models by default.
OpenAI’s standard API retention is limited (commonly up to ~30 days) and is primarily for abuse monitoring and service operations, after which it is deleted unless legally required.
Coherent only sends the information necessary to perform the requested analysis.
The original workbook will not be shared with the AI provider.
Coherent Insights, supports different “levels” of analysis, and we can control how much detail leaves the user environment. With newer Insights capabilities, higher-detail scanning can remain in the browser (client-side), while only lower-detail summaries/metadata are sent to the cloud.
If your organization has stricter requirements, please contact Support.
Limitations
With the practical limitations of AI providers and Large Language Models, be aware that:
Very large files may not work consistently.
Very complex requests that require large context windows or outputs may not process.
